Dr. Stephen Alerhand is an emergency physician, educator, and advanced cardiac POCUS specialist focused on translating complex echocardiography concepts into practical bedside clinical decision-making. He serves as Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine, Director of the Emergency Ultrasound Division, and Director of the Clinical Ultrasound Fellowship at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. Dr. Alerhand is board-certified in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care Echocardiography (CCeXAM), with a Focused Practice Designation in Advanced Emergency Medicine Ultrasonography (AEMUS).

Dr. Alerhand has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, reviews, and educational works in point-of-care ultrasound and critical care echocardiography, with particular interests in hemodynamic assessment, right ventricular dysfunction, pulmonary embolism, tamponade physiology, and advanced bedside cardiac ultrasound. His educational work emphasizes simplifying advanced echocardiographic concepts and helping clinicians apply them meaningfully during real patient encounters. Dr. Alerhand has been invited to deliver regional, national, and international lectures on these topics.

Nationally, Dr. Alerhand has served in leadership and educational roles within the American College of Emergency Physicians and Society of Clinical Ultrasound Fellowships. He has contributed extensively to advanced ultrasound education initiatives and physician training programs, along with board review content for the AEMUS examination as both Editor-in-Chief of the ACEP PEERcert+ QBank and Senior Lecturer for its Review Course. Internationally, he has lectured and taught cardiac POCUS and critical care echocardiography workshops for audiences across multiple countries in both English and Spanish. As a first-generation Mexican-American physician fluent in Spanish, Dr. Alerhand is passionate about expanding access to high-quality echocardiography education across diverse clinical and international settings.

Through EchoBridgeMD, his mission is to bridge the gap between advanced echocardiography and practical bedside medicine — helping clinicians of all backgrounds develop the confidence, pattern recognition, and clinical integration skills needed to make better real-time patient care decisions.
